Man also received a substantial fine at Letterkenny District Court

A lorry driver from Strabane has been fined €1000 and disqualified from driving for two years after being found guilty of driving without insurance.

The case of John McElroy, 54, of Jefferson Court, Strabane, was before Letterkenny District Court.

Garda Sinead McLaughlin told the court that she stopped a white MAN lorry at 12.47pm on November 23, 2020 at Lifford Bridge.

Garda McLaughlin made a lawful demand for McElroy to produce his driving licence and insurance within ten days. McElroy undertook to produce his documents at Lifford Garda Station, but did not do so.

McElroy has no previous convictions, the court was told.

McElroy was not present for the hearing before Judge Brendan O’Reilly and had no legal representation.

For driving without insurance, Judge O’Reilly fined McElroy €1000 and banned him from driving for two years. For driving without a licence, Judge O’Reilly convicted and fined McElroy €400.

McElroy was also convicted and fined €100 each on charges of failing to produce his insurance and failing to produce his licence.
