UK Coastguard responds to emergency call off Ireland's northwest coast

A distress call came this afternoon from the MYRA vessel, which is linked to the transportation of Russian-origin oil and petroleum products, and sanctioned in the US, UK and European Union
The UK Coastguard is coordinating a response to distress calls from a 75,000-tonne oil products tanker off Ireland's northwest coast.
An Inmarsat-C Distress Alert came from the 228m vessel MYRA, linked to the transportation of Russian-origin oil and petroleum products and believed to have been travelling from the Port of Ust-Luga in Russia, which ran into difficulties.
A maritime alert at 12:38pm describes severe conditions around the tanker, with significant wave heights reportedly reaching 8.8 metres.

Any vehicles that were in the vicinity were asked to contact the UK Coastguard.
Built in 2006, the ship currently operates under the Cameroon/Panama flag and has recently been linked by international authorities to "shadow fleet" operations transporting Russian crude oil and petroleum, states Open Sanctions. Since July 2025, the United States has imposed sanctions on the vessel, followed by the EU, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Canada.
