Nature lovers can enjoy an evening of bat spotting and biodiversity in Inishowen

Things are set to go batty in Inishowen later this month as nature lovers are invited to spread their wings and discover the fascinating world of bats on a special night-time Bat-Watch Bus Trip in Moville.

Organised by Inishowen Development Partnership as part of its Healthy and Active Rural Communities (HARC) Project, the unique event will take place on Tuesday, July 28, from 8.30pm until approximately 11pm.

Participants will meet at Moville Men's Shed before hopping aboard the ‘Bat-Bus’ to install bat boxes in a range of local habitats while learning more about the nocturnal creatures that play an important role in supporting biodiversity.

Organisers are encouraging people of all ages to enjoy an evening that's sure to be a real ‘bat-tery charger’ for anyone with an interest in wildlife and the great outdoors.

The family-friendly event offers an opportunity to connect with nature and learn why bats are among Ireland's most important and misunderstood mammals.

Bats play a vital role in our natural environment, acting as important nighttime pest controllers by feeding on thousands of insects and agricultural pests. As indicators of healthy ecosystems, their presence helps scientists monitor biodiversity. Protecting bat habitats and providing safe roosting spaces are key to conserving these fascinating creatures.

Places on the bus are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Anyone interested in booking a place can contact [email protected] or call 086 8097821.

The Bat-Watch programme is delivered through the HARC Project, funded by PEACEPLUS and managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
