Yesterday was the hottest day EVER recorded in Inishowen – and that’s official.
Beaches and parks were packed across the peninsula, as queues of traffic waited to get into Buncrana, Moville, Culdaff and elsewhere, during the traditionally busy Northern bank holiday weekend.
Temperatures reached a scorching 27.6 degrees Celsius at Malin Head weather station on Saturday, July 12, the latest data from Met Eireann has revealed.
That temperature comfortably beats the previous all-time daily record, which was 27.1 degrees, set way back on August 24, 1955.
In fact, there has only ever been one other day at Malin Head to reach the 27-degree mark: and that was on Thursday, July 1, 1976.
Sunday’s temperatures could be even hotter, but that’s likely to be the end of the heatwave, with highs of only 18 degrees and showers expected by Monday once again.
