Christmas Carols in the Park is returning to the Barrack Hill Town Park in Carndonagh next month.
The event will take place in the brand new covered space, The Daisy, on Sunday December 1 at 3.30pm.
“Our plan is to build on our inclusive Christmas gathering from previous years, where children and adults of all backgrounds can gather and connect through music in nature,” said Carmel Doherty, chairperson of the Barrack Hill Town Park Steering Committee.
“We are also very proud to have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag award again this year and to open our fabulous covered space, The Daisy.” Community groups including children from first and second level schools, locals and Ukrainian, Syrian and Indian adults and the Barrack Hill steering committee have all worked hard on diverse projects. The projects will showcase local cultural and creative resources including creative arts and educational projects including the reuse of upcycled fabric decorations, repurposing of old Christmas decorations, reuse of wood for arts and crafts and wreath making. The aim is to create a lifelong learning in sustainability and to form a new habit and understanding of the importance of upcycling from childhood years.
Events like this are fantastic for the community,” said Sean Curran, events organiser in the park. The Carndonagh Brass Band, the choir from the Sacred Heart Church, Siobhán Shiels Music School, and a traditional music ensemble along with local girls and boys from the national and secondary schools will take part in the event.
“We really hope all generations and backgrounds in the community will come along and join in the carol singing and celebrate Christmas together” added Sean.
“Mrs Claus has also promised to drop by for some storytelling time!”
The park is a valuable amenity in Carndonagh for improving physical and mental health and wellbeing and the steering committee said they are delighted to open the new covered space, a recreational and outdoor wellbeing space in the park that was funded through the Town and Village Renewal scheme.
The event is open to everyone in the community. Christmas cookies, hot chocolate and tea and coffee will also be on sale in the park.Visit www.barrackhilltownpark.com for details on the event.
