The developer granted planning permission for a 58-bedroom nursing home and a 10-bedroom respite care facility in Carndonagh has appealed against the conditions imposed by Donegal County council.

Glashedy Investments Ltd was granted planning permission for the development at Churchland Quarters, Carndonagh, last month.

The development involves a new extension to Churchtown lodge, which is a protected structure.

The nursing home will be located on the grounds of Churchtown Lodge while the respite care facility will occupy Churchtown Lodge itself.

Construction is due to begin this spring and the development is expected to be completed in 2024. Up to forty full-time medical and support staff will be employed when the facility opens.

The plans, which were subject to two objections, were given the go-ahead by Donegal County Council with 16 conditions.

The developer has lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanála over the conditions. A decision is due in May.
