Decision due on major housing development in Muff

The application could see dozens of new dwellings built in the centre of the village
A decision on plans for a major housing development in Muff is due next month.
The application includes the part demolition of the derelict former Garda station in the village and the construction of 41 dwellings comprising apartments and terraced houses in seven blocks.
The plans include the development of a green area and open space.
The application by WP Kearns Ltd was made in May 2022. Donegal County Council made a detailed further information request in July 2022. That included a request for the applicant to omit 11 towns houses in “the proportion of residential development that is proposed outside the current settlement boundary of Muff village”.
The local authority also raised concerns about the impact of the proposed development on bird species in the Lough Foyle special protection area which could be caused by effects on water quality and disturbance of internationally important habitats and species due to site development works.
The applicant was also ordered to prepare a Natura Impact Statement.
A decision from Donegal County Council is due early next month.
