Leitrim's planning woes set to continue for years

Planning permission for the extension of planning permission to build 19 houses in Buncrana has been refused.

Hubert and Mark McLaughlin had sought a five-year extension on the duration of an application to build 18 semi-detached houses and one detached house at Ballymacarry.

The proposed development included access via an existing entrance and an access road and connection to all existing services and all associated site development works.

Planning permission for the development was originally granted in December 2016 but expired in December last year. The application stated that five of the dwellings had been commenced to subfloor level.

Refusing planning permission, Donegal County Council stated the fact the development had not commenced before the expiry of the planning permission and that substantial works had not been carried out, a decision to grant the extension would be "contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area".
