Seminar aimed at helping people through dark periods in their lives

Four inspirational people are set to speak of their personal journeys at a seminar in Buncrana on Friday morning.

The 'From There to Here' seminar will hear from local people who have been in a place where they may have felt there was no light to help them through, due to such issues as alcoholism or mental health.

After seeking help and putting their lives back onto a positive footing, the four speakers are now helping others through coaching and training.

Organiser of the seminar, Buncrana man Jason Cameron, is encouraging anyone who has been struggling in their lives to come along and hear these “powerful stories”.

“The response I've received from the community has been phenomenal,” Jason said. “I hope to see as many people there as possible.

“We have some fantastic speakers lined up, who all have powerful stories to tell.”

Jason, who sadly lost his wife Tara in 2017, decided to stage the event in a bid to help others.

“I lost my wife Tara five years ago and I managed to come through all of that grief and I just wanted to help others who are in a similar position like I was,” he said.

“This is something that I have been thinking about doing for a while now and after coming through covid and the recent spate of suicides in the town (Buncrana), I think the timing is right for something like this to be held.

“Even if it helps one person then it will be worth it.”

If the seminar proves to be a success, Jason is hopeful of staging more events in the future.

The four speakers are Oisin O’Flaherty – from alcohol to fitness coach; Nicole Gordon, mental health to fitness coach; Joanne Nash, The Sober Coach and Ryan McDaid – Business Driven to Soul Driven.

The seminar will be held in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana on February 19 from 11am to 2pm. A short meditation will start this event and tea and coffee will be available also. Entry, with payment at the door, is €10 and everyone is welcome.
