Barrack Hill Town Park hosted a day of festive cheer and music made possible through widespread collaboration, including support from local businesses

The annual Christmas Carols in the Park hosted by the Barrack Hill Town Park Steering Committee took place on Sunday, December 8.The event was enhanced by the use of The Daisy, a new covered structure in the park. Funded by the Town and Village Renewal Fund, The Daisy is a fantastic addition to the community, enabling year-round activities regardless of the weather.

The project was made possible by Fiona Doherty, community liaison officer with Donegal County Council and overseen by Adrian Duffy and Brian Keogh. Construction was carried out by Moneydarragh Construction, resulting in a beautiful structure that has already become a hub for community events.

The event itself was a feast of festive cheer, with The Daisy adorned in festoon lights, wreaths, and bows crafted by Community Gardeners and members of the new communities. Mrs Claus and her elves delighted children with stories and jokes, adding to the warm, family-friendly atmosphere.

A large and enthusiastic crowd was treated to performances by an array of local talent, including Carndonagh's famous Brass Band, Siobhán Sheil’s musical group, the Barrack Hill Boppers (fresh from their roles in the CCS musical Sister Act), and the talented Trad in the Head.

As night fell, Barrack Hill was transformed into a sparkling wonderland, with twinkling lights along paths and trees, creating unforgettable photo opportunities. The large metal Christmas tree, crafted by LCAs from Carndonagh Community School under the guidance of Mark Devlin and donated by the LCA students and their coordinator Breda Doherty, was a highlight of the event.

Stars created by the CCS TY students added another touch of festive charm. The success of the event was made possible through widespread collaboration, including significant support from local businesses. It served as a testament to the strength and spirit of the community, showing what can be achieved when everyone comes together.

“It was an evening to remember and I hope the whole community will enjoy this valuable resource” said Carmel Doherty, Chairperson of Barrack Hill Town Park.
