Safety concerns have been raised about delivery lorries reserving up McGinn Avenue from Buncrana’s primary care centre

Residents in the centre of Buncrana have raised concerns about lorries delivering to the town’s new primary care centre reversing down the one-way street.

The centre on Maginn Avenue has been open since last September and is home to GP, dental, nursing, physiotherapy and mental health services, among others.

Local councillor Jack Murray has raised concerns with Donegal County Council about large lorries that deliver to the centre but are not able to turn around. As a result, the lorries have to reserve down the one-way street.

Speaking at the Inishowen Municipal District meeting, he said residents had been told the traffic would be coming in Maginn Avenue and out of Ferris Lane. “That does not seem to be the case,” he said.

Lorries cannot come up with Maginn Avenue as they would have to mount the kerb and cause further danger, he said.

It is an HSE issue and the solution would be for the lorries to exit through the site, Cllr Murray said.

The Sinn Féin councillor also called for traffic calming on Maginn Avenue.

Michael McFadden, acting senior executive engineer for roads and transportation, said he would contact the HSE about the delivery service.

“It is not a safe practise and we will have to try to resolve that with HSE directly,” he said.

He added that he would discuss traffic calming with the area engineer and the council’s road design section.
