Modern day Spanish Armada lands in Carndonagh!

Inishowen's Welditz to provide toll booths for motorways across the globe
A Carndonagh engineering firm has secured a lucrative new contract, it has been confirmed.
Welditz Engineering has successfully secured contracts to design and manufacture toll booths for motorways across the globe.
The family firm, which was established over 25 years ago will be expanding their workforce as a result of the contract.
Tecsidel of Barcelona, Spain; a global designer and manufacturer of automatic road toll payment machines with integrated software, has chosen Welditz Engineering to work with them in the design and manufacture of the toll booths.
Tecsidel is an independent company founded in 1979. It specializes in the development and integration of advanced information systems that are aimed at managing the efficient and safe mobility of vehicles, goods, and information flows.
Managing Director of Welditz Engineering, James Cuddihy described the deal as a “game changer” for his business.

“Emigration of our youth has been a way life here for too long. We at Welditz would like to see Carndonagh grow to a manufacturing centre like areas in Germany as we believe that not everyone can use farming or tourism as a way to affluence.
“The whole team at Welditz, worked hard over the last year to beat off our international competitors to win.
“Our low cost base, coupled with our engineering skills, in both design and manufacturing helped us win the day.
“We are now gearing up to ship out our first prototypes to a Mexican motorway at the end of January and we are excited to see how they will perform. To deliver this work, we have invested in some of the latest laser welding technology from the United States.
“These new laser welders are some of only a handful that have just arrived in Ireland so far, and are set to revolutionise the way welding will be done in the next few years. They will help turn the booths around faster.”
He continued: As part of their initial phase of work with Tecsidel, Welditz will also be refreshing Ireland's M3 toll booths. The company is also exploring opportunities in Italy.
Global field ops manager of Tecsidel Michael Matas Alcantara said: “We are delighted to be working with James and the team at Welditz as we roll out our new toll technology to our clients across countries.
“Not only did they team demonstrate great flexibility in adapting to our requirements. They also showed great enthusiasm and ‘know how’ to get stuck in to solve our particular problems.”
