Two organisations in Carndonagh and one in Greencastle have received  funding which is part of a €1 million investment for organisations throughout the country

Three Inishowen organisations have been allocated a total of €173,000 to create new community services programme positions.

Spraoi Agus Spórt Family Centre in Carndonagh has been allocated €114,750; Colgan Community Resource Centre in Carndonagh has been granted €35,000 and Greencastle Community Development has received €23,175.

The funding is part of a €1 million investment for a total of 32 organisations throughout the country, including seven in Donegal, announced by the Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Joe O’Brien.

The community services programme has evolved over recent years, and in line with emerging priorities, a new needs-based differential funding model was introduced from January 2023. An increase in the funding contributions to CSP organisations was announced in December 2023, to help CSP organisations to implement the increased national minimum wage for all staff.

The CSP contribution supports organisations to meet local service gaps and provide access to services and facilities that would potentially otherwise be unavailable. There are currently 449 community-based services supported by the CSP through 429 organisations throughout the country.

Welcoming the announcement, Donegal minister Charlie McConalogue said the funding will extend the capacity of the Community Service Programmes in the county to deliver important services in local communities.

“Community service programmes continue to do great work in so many communities in Donegal. They support community-based organisations to provide local social, economic, and environmental services through a social enterprise model,” the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine added.

“This announcement follows a call for additional funding requests to existing community service programmes which took place in September 2023,” Minister McConalogue commented.
