Abolish USC say councillors

Leitrim councillors agreed at a recent meeting to call on the Minister for Finance Michael McGrath to abolish the Universal Social Charge.
In a motion put forward by Cllr Paddy Farrell, he noted that the tax was introduced as a temporary measure at the height of the economic crisis.
"This tax is very unfair on low to medium income workers," he said.
Cllr Farrell said the recently introduced taxes on carbon and concrete have put yet more pressure on taxpayers and "all it's doing is crippling the ordinary working person out there and I think it's time to give them a break," adding they are "being crucified week after week".
