Call for more parking in Leitrim town as major works near completion

Cllr Maeve Reynolds urged Leitrim County Council to provide an additional public car park in Mohill town centre, fearing reduction in spaces could impact visitors and businesses.
As public realm enhancement works near completion in Mohill, the town is experiencing a visible transformation.
However, concerns have been raised regarding the reduction of car parking spaces, which could negatively impact visitors and local businesses.
At a meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District, Cllr Maeve Reynolds urged Leitrim County Council to provide an additional public car park in Mohill town centre.
She highlighted that the installation of bollards in the final stages of the works would eliminate more parking spaces, adding that it’s already difficult to find parking in Mohill as the town is “generally always busy.”
In response, the Council’s Active Travel department stated that there are currently no plans to provide additional car parking in Mohill.
It noted that a future application for a second Rural Regeneration and Development Fund project may be considered. This could include the development of back lands that could include additional parking.
“This is majorly needed for Mohill,” Cllr Reynolds insisted. She pointed out that there are a number of businesses in the area, and “having a car park facility within the main street in the town centre would be very good for businesses.”
Her motion was supported by Cllr Farrell, Cllr McGowan and Cllr Flynn.
