Carrick-on-Shannon Tidy Towns volunteers have been celebrating two achievements, following a successful charity coffee morning in aid of North West Hospice and national recognition for a local railway station employee

The group recently presented a cheque for €1,315.05 to North West Hospice, following a fundraising coffee morning organised by Carrick Tidy Towns. Chairperson John Gaffey and fellow volunteers presented the proceeds to Olive McTague, Charity Manager at North West Hospice.

The funds will support the hospice's work providing care and support to patients and families affected by life-limiting illnesses across the North West. Meanwhile, Carrick Tidy Towns members also paid a special visit to Carrick-on-Shannon Railway Station to congratulate depot person Angela O'Grady on her recent success in the annual Iarnród Éireann Customer Experience Excellence Awards.

Angela was named a finalist in the People's Choice category and received a Highly Commended distinction in the Station Staff category, recognising her dedication to maintaining high standards at the station. Her work has been particularly appreciated by Carrick Tidy Towns volunteers, who praised her commitment to keeping the station and its surroundings in excellent condition.

Angela also takes great care of the flowers planted by Tidy Towns members, helping to create a colourful and welcoming environment for passengers arriving in Carrick-on-Shannon. Her efforts ensure that visitors travelling to the town by rail are greeted with a positive first impression. Members of Carrick Tidy Towns congratulated Angela on the well-deserved recognition and acknowledged her contribution to the appearance and upkeep of the station.
