The four regional finals of Gael Linn’s prestigious debating competition, Comórtas Díospóireachta An Phiarsaigh, will take place this week, on March 6 and 7, in Carrick-On-Shannon, Limerick and Dublin.

Comórtas Díospóireachta An Phiarsaigh is an Irish language debating competition organised by Gael Linn for schools that complete their studies through the medium of English.

The Connacht final will take place in Carrick-on-Shannon on Monday evening, March 6 with Loreto Letterkenny (in favour of the motion); St. Gerald’s College, Castlebar (against the motion); Our Lady’s Bower, Athlone (in favour of the motion) and Scoil Bhríde, Tuam (against the motion) competing in the junior division.

They will debate on whether the policies put in place by the Green Party are positively impacting the standard of living in Ireland in the present day.

Following this debate, St Gerald’s College, Castlebar (in favour of the motion); Scoil Mhuire, Trim (against the motion); Carrick-on-Shannon Community School (in favour of the motion) and Loreto Letterkenny (against the motion) will take part in the senior division, debating on whether alcohol should be banned entirely in Ireland or not.

One junior team and one senior team will progress on to take part in the All Ireland Final that will take place on 28th of March.

Gael Linn would like to wish each team the very best of luck in the regional finals.
