Diesel cars are still number one in Leitrim

Searches for electric cars rose by 94 per cent last month compared to last year
Diesel cars are still the most popular motors in Leitrim according to a new survey however overall, diesel-engine cars are falling out of favour with the public while electric vehicles are surging in popularity, new data from DoneDeal has revealed.
Searches for electric vehicles (EVs) on Ireland’s largest car marketplace rose 94 per cent last month compared with the same period last year, as diesel searches fell by 21 per cent over the same period.
However, diesels are still the favourite in Leitrim, Mayo, Monaghan, Cavan and Roscommon. Hybrid cars are the number one fuel type selling cars in the country, according to the study. Meanwhile, EV sales are up by 54% year on year.
The data signals a tipping point due to used electric vehicle (EV) prices becoming more competitive as the charging network expands and more Irish drivers know someone who owns an electric car, so hear real stories of their driving range and reliability, according to DoneDeal.
As EVs and diesels have flipped, searches for hybrids have “held firm”, up 2% year-on-year when all hybrid categories are grouped together. Meanwhile, petrol searches rose by 9%.
The data is drawn from searches where DoneDeal Cars users picked a certain fuel type, therefore capturing intent rather than just browsing and signalling what they plan to buy next.
