Long awaited upgrades could be on the way for the Leitrim station

Long awaited car park upgrades could be on the way for Carrick-on-Shannon, Leitrim.

Iarnród Éireann sent a response to the Carrick-on-Shannon municipal district stating that there are possible upgrades in the pipeline for car parking facilities in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The transport company said they had identified Carrick-on-Shannon as a "priority station for car park expansion within the Iarnród Éireann National Carpark Strategy and engagement previously took place with local landowners with a view to agreeing to a  suitable site for car park expansion."

The statement continued that Iarnród Éireann are currently updating the National Car Park Strategy report and want to "recommence engagement with local landowners with a view to agreeing on a suitable site in Carrick-on-Shannon for car park upgrade and enhancement works. If local landowner lands are unavailable, we would coordinate with Leitrim County Council to determine if suitable local authority lands are available".

Cllr Paddy Farrell welcomed the news and Cllr Sean McGowan stated that "something needs to be done as it's going on a long time."
