A junction in North Leitrim will be included in the 2024 applications for low cost safety measures and in the meantime obstructive hedges will be addressed to try and improve sight lines.

Cllr Padraig Fallon called for works to be undertaken to improve sight lines at the Corraweehil junction on the Coolegreane road noting “there is an extremely limited view here.”

He said he was initially approached about the possibility of getting a convex mirror installed at this junction but said he knew that the Council “are not really in favour of using mirrors.

“In the interim, there is a very steep inclination approaching this junction - known locally as the rampart,” he said.

“This is a 45-degree incline which travels down to a busy road. I came down it a few days ago and when you are approaching the junction with the busy road, there is no view to see approaching traffic from the left and the view to the right is very limited.”

District engineer, Eric Gilroy, said he was aware of the issues at this junction adding it will be included in the 2024 low cost safety measure applications.

Cllr Fallon asked if some of the hedges at this junction could be cut to improve sight lines. This was seconded by Cllr Mary Bohan.

Mr Gilroy said that he would investigate the hedges at this location to see if improvements could be made to sight lines in the interim.
