New data shows that Leitrim ranks among the top counties in Ireland for second-hand fashion demand when adjusted for population.

Clothing and footwear prices in Ireland rose 9% in the 12 months to March 2026, according to the Consumer Price Index recorded by the Central Statistics Office and search data from across the country reveals that Irish consumers are turning to second-hand fashion platforms in significant numbers — and it is not just happening in cities.

From Carlow to Cavan, smaller counties are leading the shift when population size is taken into account. To find out where second-hand fashion is gaining the most traction, monthly search volumes for Vinted and Depop were analysed at county level and indexed against CSO population data, producing Ireland’s first county-by-county Second-Hand Style Index.

Megan Roberts, who conducted the research, told Leitrim Observer: "Leitrim is one of the more surprising entries. The total search numbers are small, but relative to its population, it ranks high. That suggests a noticeable portion of people are actively using resale platforms rather than just being aware of them."
