Leitrim attraction could showcase Hollywood-featured American cars under new proposal

Plans have been submitted for an American car museum in Drumcoura City which could display Hollywood-featured vehicles as part of a new tourism attraction proposal.
A planning application has been submitted for the development of an American car museum in Leitrim.
The application was submitted on May 8 by Ron Weisz and seeks to construct a detached car museum as part of the Drumcoura City tourism amenity near Ballinamore.
The application also seeks to construct a new site entrance, car parking, landscaping, connection to the storm water network, and all ancillary works.
The development is being proposed by Drumcoura City as an additional visitor attraction within the existing equestrian centre, bar, restaurant, and events venue.
If approved, the museum will display approximately 16 collectible American vehicles at any given time, with a curated rotation of exhibits designed to ensure a fresh and engaging visitor experience.
A number of these vehicles have featured in well-known Hollywood productions, adding to the uniqueness and appeal of the attraction.
The development is designed to complement the established Americana and Western theme of Drumcoura City and to enhance its overall tourism offering.
The proposed building is barn-shaped in style. While most of the existing buildings in Drumcoura are timber-clad, it has been decided that the proposed building will be clad in profiled metal cladding, typical of agricultural buildings in Ireland.
To reduce the visual mass of the building, it has been sited with its gable end facing the road, lake, and the R204 main road.
The proposers feel that the development will encourage longer visitor dwell time and repeat visits, and will provide an all-weather indoor attraction, enhancing year-round tourism potential.
The building will contain a main car viewing hall, which will be open to the public during operating hours. To the rear of the building, a separate maintenance area and storage facilities will be provided for servicing the cars.
It would be open from Tuesday to Saturday from April to September, and by appointment from October to March. It is envisaged that there will be an admission price of €10, with children under 12 years of age going free.
Leitrim County Council is due to make a decision on the application by July 2.
