New programme helps creative sector build digital skills and boost online sales

A new hands-on training programme is helping Leitrim’s artists and craft makers harness digital tools to promote their work and grow their businesses.

The Innovate & Create programme, launched by The Leitrim Design House in March, offers in-house media production training to creatives across the county. Running until October, the bespoke training is funded through a LEADER grant under Ireland’s CAP Strategic Plan 2023–2027.

Tailored specifically for the local arts sector, the workshops provide real-world skills in photography, videography, editing, and storytelling for social media and e-commerce platforms.

Led by Lee Williamson of Shuttermaniac Productions, the sessions take place in each maker’s own studio—allowing artists to capture content in their natural working environment while receiving direct support and feedback.

“It’s all about giving makers the tools to communicate more clearly, connect with audiences, and grow their businesses,” said a spokesperson for The Leitrim Design House.

Participants learn the basics of framing, composition, lighting, and editing, while also developing confidence in telling the story behind their work. The practical, peer-supported approach helps makers clarify their creative message and better understand what resonates with potential customers.

Each participant leaves the programme with a self-produced promotional video, boosting their visibility online and helping them compete in the growing digital marketplace.

The programme also fosters collaboration and community, encouraging makers to share skills, refine content together, and support one another in building stronger creative enterprises.

“Innovate & Create” is part of a broader movement to upskill rural Ireland’s creative sector and help small businesses adapt to digital demands. The long-term aim is to increase sustainability and economic resilience across Leitrim’s vibrant arts and design scene.
