ESB has confirmed the restoration of power in Leitrim with flooding reported in the Ballinamore area

A number of flooding incidents and power cuts were reported in Leitrim in the wake of Storm Bert.

One housing estate in Ballinamore suffered flooding early on Saturday morning after very heavy overnight rainfall.

Residents of the Dun na Bo estate in Ballinamore awoke to significant flooding on the road outside of their properties.

There were also a number of power cuts close to Dromahair and Drumshanbo early on Saturday morning which were restored by the afternoon.

ESB confirmed on Saturday evening that 49,000 homes, farms and businesses have been reconnected and those still without power are predominantly in counties Donegal, Sligo, Mayo and Galway.

In their update they added that crews “will continue working late into the evening to restore power to most customers currently without supply. While we are doing everything we can, it is anticipated that some customers will be without supply overnight”.

According to ESB Networks' Powercheck, most of those without power are located along the western seaboard and in the north west of the country in particular.

A large number of faults were reported in the early hours of this Saturday morning.

Delays were also reported on the Connolly to Sligo line due to flooding on the tracks.
