Leitrim road which takes a lot of timber is falling away

A road that is “one of the busiest timber routes in Leitrim” seems to be falling in towards fields in Ballinaglera, according to Leitrim County Council. Independent Cllr Gerry Dolan asked the local authority to carry out works to have the roadside filled up at the Ballinaglera side of the entrance to Cormongan Pier on the Dowra Road.
Cllr Dolan said “there is a drop on the left-hand side as you head towards Ballinaglera and it is very dangerous for motorists.”
He added markings are also needed to warn people. Ballinamore area District Engineer Darragh O’Boyle said work had been carried out on the R207 under drainage grants and climate action. Leitrim County Council has also applied for funding under climate action for roads with Mr O’Boyle adding “the road seems to be falling in towards the fields.”
He noted it is “one of the busiest timber routes in Leitrim” and it's “getting a hammering.”
