Need for safer parking at Co. Leitrim creche highlighted

There was a call for a safer drop off point for a creche in Drumshanbo
There was a call for a safer drop off point for a creche in Drumshanbo, at this week's meeting of Ballinamore Municipal District.
Cllr Enda McGloin (FG) submitted a motion, calling for derelict ground behind the Bo Peep Kids Childcare facility to be developed.
“I request Leitrim County Council to contact the Department of Rural and Community Development seeking advice on how they would advise we would develop derelict ground to the rear of Bo Peep Kids Childcare, to provide safer drop off and pick up for children along with a number of other town centre additions,” the motion stated.
“Two previous applications have been rejected under Town and Village Renewal Scheme, which is very disappointing. Surely, the have a vison how such a 'black spot' in our town centre can be dealt with,” Cllr McGloin's motion added.
Speaking on his motion, Cllr McGloin said that, “there has been no feedback from the Department. It is hard to make another application when we don't know how it is going wrong.”
“When parents drop off children for the creche, there is little or no room. Parking in this area would also help traders in the town,” he added.
The motion was supported by fellow Drumshanbo based councillor Brendan Barry (SF). “It can be a bottleneck in that area. This development would be hugely beneficial to the town,” he commented.
A written reply from the council stated, “The council has sought feedback from the Department on a number of occasions in relation to the unsuccessful application to undertake the relevant works. But unfortunately, this feedback has not been forthcoming.”
“However, the council will continue its efforts to identify any potential funding opportunities through which this site could be developed,” the reply added.
