Leitrim County Council’s new Capital Delivery Team will support community groups, with Kiltyclogher among the villages looking to plan for long-term development.

A new team has been established within Leitrim County Council to provide technical and administrative support to community groups across the county.

The Capital Delivery Team (CDT) will be available to meet with community groups in each Municipal District area one Wednesday per month to discuss potential projects.

The initiative was discussed at a recent meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District, where Cllr Eddie Mitchell called on the Council to work closely with a community group and the wider community in Kiltyclogher to support the long-term sustainable development of the village.

This would involve making relevant officials available for briefings and discussions as required and, where appropriate, providing technical advice and support.

Cllr Mitchell told the meeting that a sub-group had been established within the existing community group in Kiltyclogher to focus on the future development of the village.

One of the biggest challenges facing the village is housing and the long-term viability of the primary school.

It is hoped that two social housing units in the village will help address this in the short term. However, Cllr Mitchell stressed that more houses would be needed in the long term to support the village’s development and ensure the school remains open.

Cllr Gurn reaffirmed this, saying, “It’s great to see that there are houses being built but they need to be identified for families to retain the school.”

In response, the Council noted that the CDT had recently been established to meet with community groups. A booking system to facilitate groups in arranging these meetings is currently being set up.
