New figures have revealed that there are 100 gardaí stationed in Leitrim

The number of gardaí stationed in County Leitrim has remained largely unchanged over the past 15 years, despite an increase in population.

New figures have revealed there were 100 gardaí stationed in Leitrim, as of December 2025. This represents an increase of just one on the 2011 figure of 99 gardaí.

The number of gardaí in Leitrim has fluctuated around the 100 mark during that period, reaching a high of 107 in 2020 and a low of 95 in 2023.

This is despite the fact that between 2011 and 2022, the population of the county increased by 10.7%.

With a population of 35,199, there is approximately one garda for every 352 people in Leitrim.

Of these gardaí, 77 are on general duty, 19 are sergeants and three are inspectors. There is also one superintendent.

More than half of these are stationed in Carrick-on-Shannon, with a total of 56 available for duty in the county town.

There are 27 stationed in Manorhamilton whilst Kinlough and Drumshambo both boast five gardaí each.

Three of the gardaí are stationed in Ballinamore while there are two each stationed in Carrigallen and Mohill.

The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024.
