A 42-year-old man accused of taking money off a Boyle homeowner to paint his house without doing so has been sent forward for trial to Roscommon Circuit Criminal Court.

Martin Sweeney of Cloonacool, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo is charged with inducing Mr Eamonn Ansboro to make a payment of €1,650 to paint his property at Ardmoyle, Kingsland, Boyle, Co. Roscommon with the intention of making a gain for himself, contrary to Section 6 of the Criminal Justice Theft and Fraud Offences Act 2001.

Sweeney appeared in custody before Judge Sandra Murphy at Carrick-on-Shannon District Court on Friday, June 23, where Sergeant Mary Gallagher gave evidence of serving the Book of Evidence on him at 10.38 that morning.

State solicitor for Leitrim Ms Niamh McGovern told Judge Murphy that the DPP had agreed to send Sweeney forward for trial on indictment to Roscommon Circuit Court.

Mr Patrick O’Sullivan BL, defence barrister for Sweeney, made no application for bail.

Judge Murphy gave Sweeney an alibi warning and granted him legal aid for one junior counsel and a solicitor.

She then sent him forward for trial to Roscommon Circuit Criminal Court.
