People "bitterly disappointed" road not included in three year plan

"It came as a bitter disappointment to the people will live there that it was not included in the next three year programme," Cllr Paddy O'Rourke said at the latest Ballinamore Municipal District meeting where he asked to include Road L-15348 in the townland of Corglass for drainage work and resurfacing.
He said: "This link road carries a large volume of traffic particularly since there have been a number of new family homes constructed there. In the past it used to be subject to heavy goods traffic associated with an industry which has ceased in recent years. Also, a number of adjoining landowners have indicated their co-operation in regard to drainage works which would impact their property."
A Report by the Roads office said that the road is currently not on their three year programme.
"We may look at including this local road on the next three year plan which will be presented to the elected members in the third quarter of 2024," the response concluded.
Cllr O'Rourke said that more houses have been built in the area with planning permission approved for yet more dwellings. "Is there nothing we can do short-term because it's a right mess?" he said.
Mr O'Boyle said that at this point, the council could just "maintain the road" and that the road would be eligible for the conclusion of the council's 3-year Restoration Improvement Grant programme.
He said he could push it forward for "Climate Action funding but I need to have a look at it and see if it's in a desperate state regarding flooding but I think the best thing is to get it on the Restoration Improvement Grant programme."
Mr O'Boyle said he would go out to the location the following week.
