People from salted road in Cavan to unsalted road in Leitrim - O'Rourke

People are coming off a salted road in Cavan and coming in Leitrim, where it's not salted and it's a "hilly and twisty road", said Cllr Paddy O'Rourke at the latest Ballinamore municipal district meeting where he asked that, in the absence of having the leading road from Golden Vale Mart, Carrigallen to the Cavan boundary at Doogarry salted by the truck, "could we have deposits of salt provided along the road at the very many hilltops and bad bends which residents could apply to the road when necessary?"
A Report by the Roads office said the council can place a yellow salt bin at Drumeela Church for the general public to access.
Cllr O'Rourke said while the truck sometimes goes this way having exited Leitrim off the R199 at the Cavan border, it does not however salt the road.
"Last year we had a situation where a 96 year-old man was found lying on the floor and an ambulance couldn't get to his house; it was all the public road that was the problem," noted Cllr O'Rourke.
Cllr Caillian Ellis supported the motion.
Cllr O'Rourke said that the hill was the tricky area with Darragh O'Boyle, district engineer, suggesting perhaps the salt bin be positioned there. Cllr O'Rourke agreed to this.
