Dr Anthony Beirne of Annaduff sadly passed away on June 22 while on holiday in France, prompting an outpouring of heartfelt condolences from all who knew him.

The Annaduff and wider Leitrim community, along with St Luke’s, Co. Cork, are in mourning following the tragic passing of Dr Anthony Beirne.

Dr Beirne passed away while on holiday in France on June 22. He is deeply missed by his wife June, son Francis, parents Billy and Peggy, brother Patrick, sister Bernadette, sister-in-law Sindy, uncle Michael, niece Siobhan, cousins, relatives, neighbours, colleagues in Cork, and many friends.

Tributes have been pouring in for Dr Beirne, who was described as “bright” and a “gentleman,” among other admirable qualities.

One of his classmates from University College Cork shared, “Anthony was a wonderfully witty and engaging member of our UCC class of ’89 – conversations with him were always thoughtful, entertaining, and memorable. May he rest in peace.”

“We worked together in the North Cork community sector for a few years. He was a thorough gentleman who looked after his patients so well. Rest in peace Tony,” a former colleague recalled.

Anthony will repose at St Mary’s Church, Annaduff (N41 CF54), on Thursday, July 10, from 5pm to 7pm. His Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, July 11, at 11am in St Mary’s Church, Annaduff.

The family has requested no flowers, and donations, if desired, can be made to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

Dr Beirne clearly made a lasting impact on colleagues, patients, and all who knew him. One condolence message read, “Deepest condolences to June, Frances, Billy, Peggy and all the Beirne family. A more gentle yet thought-provoking doctor you will never find anywhere.”

Another tribute shared a personal memory. “I had a bereavement over 18 months after leaving that team and was extremely touched when a card arrived to my home from Tony, even though we were no longer in contact; he hadn't had my exact address but had put down what he knew and it had somehow reached me. I always appreciated that thought and effort and will always think of that when I think of Tony.”
