Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow snow and ice warning for Leitrim tonight, with sleet and snow showers expected to cause difficult travelling conditions.

Sleet and snow showers have been forecast for Leitrim this evening as Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow snow and ice warning.

A Status Yellow weather warning for rain is already in place for the county and the entire country until 3pm today, with a wind warning also in effect until 6pm.

The snow and ice warning is valid from 9pm this evening, Thursday, and is set to lift at 9am on Friday, March 13.

Met Éireann is warning of difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility, as showers may fall as sleet or snow with some accumulations possible, mainly on higher ground.

Tonight will be cold with clear spells and scattered blustery showers, some heavy with isolated thunderstorms possible. Some of the showers will be a wintry mix of hail, sleet and snow, with lying snow in places by morning, especially on higher ground.

Lowest temperatures will range from 0 to 3 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty southwesterly winds, with gales near the coast.

Tomorrow will be cold and breezy with bright or sunny spells and scattered showers, merging at times into longer spells of rain.

Some of the showers could be wintry at first but will transition mostly to rain or hail through the morning. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees.
