A series of arrests and warnings were made by police over Saturday and Sunday.

An investigation into “unacceptable” football-related disorder where officers were targeted with fireworks and glass bottles has been launched by police.

On Monday, Police Scotland said it is looking into the matter, which took place on Curtis Avenue, Glasgow, ahead of the Aberdeen versus Rangers game that kicked off at 5.30pm on Saturday.

Police said officers had glass bottles, fireworks and other projectiles launched at them, with two fans being assaulted, though they did not need medical attention.

A man was arrested in a separate incident outside Hampden in connection with an assault, but there were no arrests made during the match.

The following day, at Hearts versus Hibernian at Hampden, four men, aged between 24 and 37, were arrested for possession of pyrotechnics and abusive behaviour, and are due at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.

Another man was charged for alleged vandalism and two other men received police warnings for threatening and abusive behaviour.

A 28-year-old man was later arrested and charged outside the stadium for similar offences, and one more man was given a warning for the same.

An additional three men and one woman are also to be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for the same, as well as pyrotechnic offences.

Superintendent Paul Douglas said: “Several officers were assaulted whilst carrying out their duties during unacceptable disorder ahead of the Aberdeen v Rangers match at Hampden on Saturday October 31 2026.

“They were attacked with fireworks, glass bottles and other missiles as supporters gathered in the Curtis Street area of Glasgow before kick-off.

“This violence is disgraceful and will not be tolerated. Being assaulted is not part of the job and it’s extremely fortunate they were not seriously injured.

“Two fans were also assaulted during the same incident but did not require hospital treatment.

“Those involved should be in no doubt that they will be identified and arrested. Inquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible and we will work closely with both football clubs as part of our investigation.

“I would appeal to the public for information and urge anyone who knows who was involved in this disorder to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident 1676 of October 31.

“We recognise that only a small percentage of fans behave in such a way and cause disorder, but I would encourage all fans to take personal responsibility for their conduct.”
