'A lifeline for men who rely on it' - Carlow Men's Sheds receive over €4,000 in vital funding
The funding provides grants to support the day-to-day running costs of sheds nationwide
Three Carlow Men's Sheds have received over €4,000 in funding through the Department of Rural and Community Development and distributed by the Irish Men’s Sheds Association (IMSA).
The funding provides grants to support the day-to-day running costs of sheds nationwide, including heating, electricity and insurance.
In Carlow, the following sheds have received funding:
- Borris Men’s Shed – €908.60
- Carlow Men’s Shed – €2,785.37
- Tullow Men’s Shed – €676.69
Speaking following the announcement, Minister Murnane O’Connor said:
"This funding is welcome news for Men’s Sheds here in Carlow, which play such a vital role in supporting men’s health, wellbeing, and social connection.
"The work done day in, day out in Borris, Carlow Town, and Tullow is often behind the scenes, but has an enormous impact on individuals and communities."
Minister Murnane O’Connor highlighted the strong link between Men’s Sheds and positive public health outcomes:
"I see first‑hand how important spaces like Men’s Sheds are in tackling isolation and supporting mental health. These sheds are not just buildings; they are lifelines and hubs of friendship, learning, and mutual support."
The Carlow TD also acknowledged the importance of local volunteers and the national umbrella organisation:
"I want to pay tribute to the volunteers who keep our Carlow sheds going, and to the Irish Men’s Sheds Association for their continued advocacy and support.
"This funding will help ensure local sheds can continue to open their doors, keep the lights on, and be there for the men who rely on them."
