Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach in Askea has sought permission for a three-storey extension, a new carpark and more
Carlow County Council has received a planning application for extensive renovation and extension works to Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach in Askea.
Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board submitted the application this week which proposes the construction of a three-storey extension to the north of the existing school building which will consist of a two-classroom special education unit with ancillary accommodation, classrooms and staffroom.
In addition to this, the proposal seeks to demolish three prefabricated buildings and a shed as well make internal alterations to the existing building in order to create a connection to the proposed extension at ground and first floor level.
The plans also include the provision of a temporary site entrance along the N80 to facilitate access during the construction period.
As part of the proposal, permission is sought to construct a new carpark, provide EV chargers, set-down areas, external soft play areas, and a sensory garden. Other works such as landscaping, boundary treatments, footpaths, paving and other associated site works needed to complete the development are also listed.
Carlow County Council are due to make their decision by 24 September 2025.
