An evening of traditional Irish music is coming to Carlow Methodist Church this Thursday, September 10.

Traditional music enthusiasts in Carlow are being invited to enjoy a free evening of traditional Irish music and performance at Carlow Methodist Church this Thursday evening.

‘Tunes, Songs and Tall Tales’ will take place on Thursday, September 10, from 7pm as part of a performance and cultural events programme running across Carlow from April to November 2026.

The evening will feature some of Ireland's finest traditional musicians, including well known Carlow fiddler Dave Sheridan, Michelle Powderly on fiddle and cello, Mick Foley on pipes and guitar, and acclaimed sean nós singer Nell Ní Chróinín on vocals and flute.

Dave Sheridan is a master traditional Irish fiddler based in County Carlow and is widely recognised for his contribution to traditional music in the county, having taught generations of young musicians in the area.

Michelle Powderly is an accomplished traditional fiddler and cellist from Navan, County Meath, while Nell Ní Chróinín is an Irish sean nós singer from the Muskerry Gaeltacht in County Cork.

Organisers promise an evening of lively tunes and melodies as the musicians showcase Ireland's rich musical heritage.

The event is part of a county wide programme ‘Carlow Beo!,’ funded and organised by the Carlow County Council Arts Office, which aims to bring live performances and cultural events to communities across the county throughout the year.

Kieran Comerford, Head of Economic Development at the Local Enterprise Office Carlow, emphasised the importance of investing in the arts.

"The arts are a powerful catalyst for economic growth. Through Carlow beo! we are driving footfall into our local towns, supporting the hospitality sector, and enhancing Carlow’s reputation as a premier destination for cultural tourism. When we invest in our creative industries, we are investing in the long term economic resilience and attractiveness of our county,” he said.

‘Tunes, Songs and Tall Tales’ takes place at Carlow Methodist Church on the Athy Road this Thursday, September 10, at 7pm.

Admission is free, with a donation box available at the door.
