As rural affairs spokesperson, Deputy Peter Cleere said the upgrading of facilities is crucial for building homes in rural Ireland
Fianna Fáil TD for Carlow/Kilkenny, Deputy Peter Cleere, has confirmed that up to almost 1,200 homes will be delivered across both counties.
Minister James Browne recently announced that the first phase of the Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund will directly deliver 86,000 new houses. It will also provide the potential for a further 113,000 homes nationwide.
In Carlow, the L4058 Service Road project will benefit from Uisce Éireann’s planned upgrade of the Mortarstown wastewater treatment plant and the Department of Transport’s funding support for the Carlow Southern Relief Road. This project will unlock lands for 400 residential units.
Welcoming the announcement, Deputy Cleere said: “This is great news today for Carlow and Kilkenny. What these projects allow is to unlock lands for building of 400 homes in Carlow on the L4058 Service Road and 791 homes on the Phase 1 Loughmacask Link Road, from Freshford Road to the Tullaroan Road (Kilkenny).
“This is the first phase under the fund by the new Housing Activation Office, which will deliver up to 86,000 new homes with the potential for 113,000 more.”
As rural affairs spokesperson, the Fianna Fáil TD said the upgrading of facilities is crucial for building homes in rural Ireland and that rural Ireland cannot be left behind.
Deputy Cleere concluded: “I would encourage Carlow and Kilkenny local authorities to apply for funding to progress infrastructure projects that will unlock housing across the constituency, specifically those that are shovel ready to ensure we accelerate local infrastructure delivery and deliver for the people of Carlow and Kilkenny.”
