Tullow Men’s Shed in Carlow has had a “fantastic morning” hosting a workshop on how to build rainwater harvesting planter boxes.
The Carlow-based Men’s Shed had more than 11 community volunteers join for the “hands-on” workshop, several of whom had never used a drill before.
“It was lovely to see everyone getting involved and learning new skills,” the Men’s Shed said in a post on Facebook.
The workshop took place on October 10th, and saw the volunteers make two of the rainwater harvesting planter boxes.
One will stay at the Tullow Men’s Shed, with the other going to another local group in the town.
“These planters capture rainwater from downpipes and slow its release, helping reduce the amount rushing straight into gullies and easing pressure on our drainage systems. They’re something community centres, public buildings and businesses could all consider,” the Facebook post states.
The Men’s Shed offered thanks to Carlow County Council’s Climate Action team, which provided the grant to cover the cost of the equipment and materials.
Carlow Minister Jennifer Murnane O’Connor also joined on the day.
“A great morning of teamwork, learning and practical climate action in our community!” the post concludes.
