Schools in Carlow are being offered to apply for a TY Sport and Leadership Programme being run by Active Carlow

Schools in Carlow are being invited to express their interest in an eight-week TY Sport and Leadership Programme.

It’s aimed at students aged 16 and older who have an interest in sport, physical activity, and developing skills in the sports sector.

The programme will provide students with a combination of training, recognised qualifications, and practical experience.

Students will receive training in safeguarding, First Aid, leadership, active disability, GAA coaching, and athletics coaching.

It’s organised by Active Carlow and its partners, both of which will work alongside students when delivering the programme.

It starts in SETU Carlow on Wednesday, January 13th and will end on March 10th, with breaks in line with midterm.

Students will be required to volunteer at camps run by Active Carlow during the Easter break, allowing them to “put their learning into practice,” as Cllr Daniel Pender put it when promoting the programme on Facebook.

“This will give them the opportunity to put their learning into practice, develop their coaching and leadership skills, and shadow experienced tutors working with the Sports Partnership,” he added.

It will run from 9:30am to 3:30pm, with a lunch break from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.

There are only 16 spots available and students will need to arrange their own transport to and from SETU for the duration of the programme.

Schools are asked to submit an Expression of Interest by 5pm on Friday, 6 November.

Interviews for the available places will begin towards the end of November.
