Milo was well-respected by all those who knew him at the Kilkenny People

A Gaelic Games stalwart and an incredible character, a Kilkenny community was in mourning as they remembered Milo Hennessy.

A native of Ballyfrunk, Ballycallan, Mr Hennessy died on December 29. Widely known in Kilkenny GAA circles he was a familiar face at games across the county and beyond.

His club, Graigue-Ballycallan, led the tributes. “He was a true Gael steeped in the traditions of the club,” they said.

“Milo’s passion and dedication in every role he undertook as a player, administrator and committee member will never be forgotten. His trojan efforts each year meant that the books were always balanced, ensuring that the youth of our parish were given the best opportunities to express themselves on the field of play.

“Milo was an encyclopedia of knowledge, particularly when it came to the history of Graigue-Ballycallan and Kilkenny GAA,” they added.

“Long before Google was ever heard of, we had Milo. No matter the question, he always had the correct answer.”

There were many more tributes paid to a man known for his wit, wisdom and kindness, with his former colleagues from his days with the Kilkenny People paying their respects.

Pre-deceased by his parents Paddy and Margaret (Peg), Milo is survived by his brothers Gerard and Kevin; sisters Rena and Eileen; nephew Shane; nieces Amy, Sarah, Laura, Margaret and Katie; sister-in-law Sadie; brothers-in-law Mikey and Jim; Gerard’s partner Eileen; grandnieces Mia, Rose and Grace; neighbours; relatives; friends and all at Graigue-Ballycallan GAA Club.

Rest In Peace
