A touching animated short film , ‘The Mighty Oak’ presented by Kilkenny-based Adventurverse Studios will air on RTE this week along with two other shorts with local directors.

The film follows Dokey, a small acorn’s transformation into a grand oak tree amidst the shifting environment from a lush forest to an urban sprawl. The film explores themes of growth, hope and the warmth of community and home.

Directed by Dave Minogue, known for ‘Poster Boys’, and produced alongside Tiffany L Gra, the film comes to life under the executive production of Eimear O’Mahony for RTÉ Jnr and Jeremy Huhes for Adventurverse Studios.

“While walking my daughter home from her childminder, she would often pause to greet the trees, sparking the idea of what family or home means from a tree’s perspective,” said director Dave Minogue.

The Mighty Oak is being broadcast on RTE 2 on May 22 and May 24 at noon and on RTÉ Jnr on May 22 and June 2 and 9.

Cora McKenna, a Kilkenny based animator who directed 'Saving Chops' for Studio Meala will also have her work showcased on RTE this week along with 'Envelope' from Kilkenny director Kaybon Darabi Fard will also be broadcast on RTE.

The short films are all part of RTÉ’s initiative aimed at enricking animation content for young viewers.
