Business people in Kilkenny are asked to keep careful check on their premises during the Beer Festival and to watch out for parcels or letters that might contain explosives.

People are also asked to report immediately anything in the nature of suspicious behaviour in the city.

“We are issuing this warning about the danger of bombs being placed so that people can be on the alert,” Supt TA Sloyan said this week.

Supt Sloyan said he was not trying to cause unnecessary alarm but where large crowds congregate there is always the danger of bombs being placed. It is vital that people be on the look out for anything that might arouse suspicion.

“If the matter is reported to us we will take immediate action, but the greatest possible co-operation from the public is necessary,” he said.

New Association

To combat bad flat conditions in Kilkenny a new Flat Dwellers’ Association has been formed in the city.

Following a recent survey of flats in the city, a group of individuals led by Fr Jackie Robinson, CC St Patrick’s, have formed a branch of the Irish Flat Dwellers’ Association.

As yet not affiliated with the national body, they are to hold their inaugural meeting shortly. All flat tenants will be invited to attend and a full committee will be formed.

The organisers have had several meetings with the Waterford Association and working in co-operation with this group they hope to improve the lot of exploited flat tenants in the city.

Wembley Win

A goal and two points in 10 minutes of extra-time gave Kilkenny a convincing 2-15 to 1-13 win over Limerick in the Wembley tournament games, which brought a crowd of 20,000 people to the London stadium. The scores were level at 1-12 each at the end of the 60 minutes and the extra-time was agreed to by both sides.

The game provided highly entertaining fare for the London exiles. There was never much between the sides and the scores were level eight times.

In the 10 minutes of extra-time Liam O’Brien sent in a rasper which defender Sean Foley deflected to the Limerick net to give Kilkenny a goal lead at a vital juncture. Kilkenny had two more points scored by Paddy Broderick and Eddie Keher to one for Limerick.
