Bronze for Kilkenny cyclist Mia Griffin at national race

Kilkenny’s Mia Griffin won bronze at the Elite Women’s Road Race last weekend
Kilkenny’s Mia Griffin took home third place at the Elite Women’s Road Race held in County Mayo over the weekend.
The Glenmore native, a 2025 winner of the event, has raced in high profile events such as the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España with her outstanding performances also guiding her to the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Meanwhile, overall winner Lara Gillespie won her second national championship title in three days, winning in a tough uphill sprint ahead of Liv Alula Jayco rider Emma Jeffers in second and Picnic PostNL rider, and Griffin. Jeffers second place was enough to see her retain her U23 National Title.
“Marine [Lenihan] attacked initially and we caught her, and then were all sort of looking at each other and ended up almost in a standing start before we got going for the line,” Gillespie said afterwards.
“I know how strong Mia is from racing and training with her on the track and I’ve seen how strong Emma is sprinting on the road, so I just had to hope for the best.
“I’m really excited to be able to wear the national champions jersey in the peleton, it really means a lot to be able to wear that for the next year,” she added.
