Kilkenny People Archive 1964 - The ongoing calls for a third level college in Kilkenny are far from new!

Kilkenny People Archive (1964) - The case for the establishment of a College of Technology in Kilkenny was formulated at a Council meeting of the Kilkenny Chamber of Commerce on Monday night.

The reasons why Kilkenny should be selected as a centre for a technological college were stated to be; the city is the most central in the south-eastern region, the population within a radius of 30 miles is approximately 300,000 (Limerick has roughly the same population within a 30 miles radius) and top craftsmen in weaving, woodwork, glass blowing, metalwork, will be employed at the Industrial Design Centre at Kilkenny Castle, and expert advice would be readily available.
