A male driver (aged in his 50s) was conveyed to St Luke’s General Hospital Kilkenny in for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Councillor Andrew McGuinness is calling for additional safety measures for the stretch of road, which links the Ring Road to the M9 motorway.
There have been three fatal collisions as well as numerous serious collisions at the well known blackspot in recent years.
“This cannot be ignored and so I am calling on Transport Infrastructure Ireland and Kilkenny County Council to review this section of road with the aim to make it safer and eliminate any issues that compromise road safety. Any safety improvement works that need to be carried out must be done as a matter of urgency,” said Cllr McGuinness.
Inspector Paul Donohoe of Kilkenny Garda Station said that a number of safety measures have been put in place in recent years including multi-lingual signage at regular intervals and a continuous white line is in place along the stretch of road.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage to contact them on 056-7775000.
