Costly lesson for learner driver in Kilkenny with garland hanging from mirror in car

Gardaí on duty on High Street in Kilkenny over the weekend couldn't help but notice a car approaching with a garland hanging from the mirror obstructing the driver's vision.

After spotting this, the vehicle was quickly scanned and checked on the garda mobility device and it showed that motor tax on the vehicle expired over six months ago.

Gardaí had a chat with the teenage driver who was over 150km from home found him to be an unaccompanied learner driver with no L-plates displayed.

The vehicle was then seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.

A garda spokesperson warned, "Let's get it straight, learner drivers may not drive unaccompanied."
