Details revealed as local icon to receive Freedom of Kilkenny City

An update was provided at Friday's sitting of the Kilkenny City Municipal District
The Kilkenny City Municipal District has confirmed well-known local businessman Eamon Langton will be awarded the Freedom of Kilkenny City at a special ceremony in Langton's on Monday, June 8.
Last month, city councillors unanimously adopted a proposal to grant Mr Langton the freedom of the city following a meeting in County Hall.
Taking over the family public house on John Street in 1975, Mr Langton made the business a household name with their popular restaurant, hotel, theatre and tea-rooms, making the 'Langton' name and brand known far and wide today.
Mr Langton previously received the Kilkenny Chamber President's Award in 2022, with Mayor John Coonan, who raised the proposal, describing this latest accolade as 'the next natural step'.
The Freedom of Kilkenny City is the highest civic honour bestowed by the city, with notable recipients including Eddie Keher, Seamus Pattison and Kieran Crotty.
