Facilities improved at popular amenity area in Kilkenny

Significant enhancements have been completed at the carpark amenity area of Jenkinstown Wood with the provision of paved
pathways and hardstanding picnic areas which incorporate five picnic benches, some of which are wheelchair friendly.
The objectives of this intervention are to improve the appearance and usability of this amenity space and make the
space accessible to wheelchair users and those with reduced mobility.
The remaining elements of the project, which includes the installation of new trailhead signage, interpretative signs, waymakers and soft landscaping will be completed in the coming months in time for peak season.
A new 1.2km trail has been developed around the Deerpark area within close proximity to the carpark and amenity area.
The surface finish along this new trail is such to make same more accessible and inclusive for all and incorporates four age-friendly benches at strategic locations along the trail.
The existing longer walk, the Jenkinstown Loop Walk, has received c.2km of upgrades in the form of trail reconstruction and
drainages provision.
