First-of-its-kind garda campaign has lots of people talking in Kilkenny

Gardaí highlight road safety dangers as new visibility campaign targets vulnerable road users
Garda social media pages in Kilkenny recently changed their profile pictures, banners and other visuals to neon yellow, sparking curiosity and intrigue locally.
The change is part of An Garda Síochána’s new nationwide road-safety initiative, “Can You See Me Now?”, launched to highlight the importance of visibility for vulnerable road users.
The 48-hour digital takeover, running on all national and divisional garda channels, aims to prompt the public to question the sudden high-vis look before revealing its purpose: drawing attention to the risks faced by pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooter users and motorcyclists, particularly during darker winter months.
The campaign comes as road-fatality figures remain a major concern. Up to November 25, 2025, 37 pedestrians and two e-scooter users have died, with older people especially vulnerable.
Twenty-nine motorcyclists have also lost their lives, many in weekend afternoon collisions, and 14 cyclists have been killed, with fatalities concentrated among under-20s and adults aged 70 and over.
As part of the campaign, gardaí are urging drivers to ensure all vehicle lights work properly, use dipped headlights during the day, keep windscreens clean, and give extra space when overtaking.
Divisional Roads Policing Units will also carry out high-visibility patrols and distribute high-vis jackets at schools, clubs and community events.
The overall message is clear: if you can be seen, you can be safer.
